Welcome to the Bol and Sol Books Blog!

Hi BSB fam! Welcome to the very first post on the Bol and Sol Books blog, a new space where we’ll be sharing educational content and behind-the-scenes stories behind our work. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, educator, language lover, or just curious about our work, we’re so glad you’re here!

Who are we?

We’re Madhu and Neal, a Tamil-Punjabi American couple passionate about sharing our diverse cultural roots with the next generation. We like to joke we’re a true “Two States” couple: Madhu grew up in Atlanta, GA and Neal in Cincinnati, OH. Our paths crossed right in the middle in Nashville, TN, where we met on a college dance team. 

Since then, our journey together has taken us through long-distance, a doctoral degree in child development, a medical degree, and a wedding that joyfully blended our Tamil, Punjabi, and American traditions. Along the way, we’ve grown more connected to the languages, stories, and customs that shaped us, and even more committed to passing them on to future generations.

In 2024, we created Bol and Sol Books as a way to grow together as a multicultural, multilingual family, and to support other families on similar journeys.

What makes us unique?

We’re not your typical children’s book creators. In fact, the idea of Bol and Sol Books began as one of Madhu’s many middle-of-the-night wonders. When she shared the idea with Neal the next morning, something clicked. As we talked it through, we realized that this wasn’t just a fleeting idea. It was something we could actually bring to life.

We enter this work with a mix of professional experience and personal passion. Madhu, with a doctorate in child development, has spent years studying how families and educators can use innovative tools to support young children’s learning and development. Neal, a physician, approaches language and identity from a deeply human perspective — one rooted in care, connection, and community. Together with our dear friend Waleed, a marketing professional with South Asian roots (and also from our college dance team!), we’re drawing on our collective experiences to build something intentional, rooted in purpose, and reflective of the communities we care about. 

Our lived experiences drive everything we do at Bol and Sol Books. We’re not just creating resources we think families will enjoy. We're creating the books we wish we had growing up that reflect our multicultural and multilingual identities and will inspire the next generation of children growing up in the diaspora.
